Lorian was raised high in the mountains of Kvandru with the powerful Wizards of Lorganth. Kvandru is a province littered with mountains, rivers, and lush forestlands. Lorganth is a monastic community of human men who practice the magical arts. When a child has been found to possess an inclination of magic, a gatherer is dispatched from the Lorganthian temple. Despite the moniker of "gatherer" it is a joyous occasion for the family and the child is not "gathered" from the family. It is a voluntary lifestyle. The men, for most of their life live solitarily, communing with one another and the ancient texts.

Lorian was a quite child who kept to himself. He did not have any brothers or sisters and his mother died during his childbirth. His father worked as an iron welder, making weapons and other items. He spent most of his time working with the elements, whether that was tilling the soil, bathing, watching the men create masterpieces of iron in fire, or simply reflecting at the sky. He found that he was able to manipulate the elements at a young age. The day he set his sheets on fire in a fit of lust was the day the week a gatherer came for him.

Lorian had always known of the gifted men of Lorganth through oral history. To get him to fall asleep, Lorian’s father would talk about how his older brother was gathered to become a Mage. To this day he is a Mage in the far plains. Lorian was surprised, but did not show it the day he was gathered. Jo’qua, a bronze chested mountain man, was one of the gifted. Jo’qua was the gatherer sent to offer Lorian an opportunity of a lifetime…to study with the Wizards.

Lorian, like all brothers of the Lorganth began his training as a Novice, learning the basics of science, magic and the elemental world. Lorian was much more solitary than the other brothers, but his studies excelled. Jo’qua helped him learn about the world around him and to look at things in a different light. Although never expressed, Lorian had deep feelings for Jo’qua. Lorian also sensed that the feeling was mutual. However, Lorganthian doctrine forbade an Apprentice to relation with his Novice in anyway other than teacher and protector.

As Lorian continued training he rose to the level of Journeyman and from there slowly moved through the rigorous discipline and testing of Apprentice, Warlock, Mage, and Sorcerer. His final test is that of Wizard. Not all those gifted with magic make it beyond Apprentice. Your status depends not only on your scholarly abilities, but also your physical. Each level of magic Lorian entered came with different duties.

As a Novice and Journeyman Lorian was a student. He rigorously studied for 12-25 hours every day both in the classroom and in the field. He ran the steep mountains where the air was crisp, yet thin. He bathed in the frigid mountain streams while learning about the animals, currents, elements, and the natural world.

As an Apprentice Lorian was a gatherer and a mentor to the novices. He trained a Novice name Skylan to appreciate the same natural world that Lorian had come to appreciate with such depth.

As a Warlock Lorian practiced the defensive arts and became a magical warrior. He honed his offensive and defensive magic. You also pay close attention to honing your physical body. Magic is divided into two balances – the mental and physical. A person with the gifts is not powerful if he is not scholarly and is not powerful if he is not in shape. The raw energy Lorian felt while as a Warlock caused him to have discrete, yet passionate, trysts with other Warlocks.

As a Mage Lorian became a scholar and aristocrat, testing magic, writing new magic and honing his skills. Lorian was taught the fine ways of living. He was shown how to be a courtesan, how to flatter people, and how to show respect to the aristocracy. He also carved his first rod of power. Lorian liked things simple. Rather than carving an ornate staff with decorative and intricate symbology, he chose to carve a simple soft Vinton tree branch into a shaft. The only symbol carved in was the Elvish symbol for harmony.

As a Sorcerer, Lorian integrates the warlike teachings of the Warlock and the scholarly teachings of the Sorcerer. There is a fine balance between the taught tendencies of the Warlock and the habitual tendencies of the Mage. When both are balanced, a Sorcerer is prepared for the greatest test…that of Wizard.

Lorian has always been attracted to men and not to women. The mere physicality of working with ones hands, the grit of sweat and iron and earth feeds Lorian’s obsession with the elements and humanity. Lorian does not show his emotions and tends to rely on the leadership of others when he is in a group. He is not always comfortable around others, but is very adept and working individually with another.
